Name: Kevin Campbell
Year:  Freshman, '14
Fun fact: I discovered I could dance fairly well for the first time at a night club in Italy in the 11th grade.
First time modeling?  This is the first time I will be functioning primarily as a model-- I've been in another show before in sort of a Miss-America-for-guys-contestant-type role.
Why did you join Lux? I was informed by my older sister, a junior at Tufts, that Lux was an awesome, extremely rewarding experience, and therefore I should audition-- so far her appraisal has been very accurate.  I also was persuaded to audition by a member of Tufts China Care Club who lives in my residence hall.
What do you know about Tufts China Care Club? I am aware that TCC is an organization dedicated to benefiting the lives of sick and handicapped orphans in China, and am also aware that TCC puts on events such as Lux to raise money for life-saving surgeries.
Why should people come to Lux this year? High fashion, beautiful people, entertainment, and a good cause to tie it all together-- you couldn't ask for more.
Others things you would like to add: In addition to modeling for Lux, I am an amateur break-dancer, avid tennis player and fan, and a current member to the Tufts Men's Crew team.  I also am on the E-board for Tufts Asian American Alliance, and will serve as a Peer Leader to incoming freshmen next year.  All of this, of course, I do on top of my academic pursuits; I plan on majoring in Biochemistry on a track towards dental school in the future.

What do you know about Tufts China Care Club? China Care is an organization that funds various medical procedures for orphans in China to give them a better chance of being adopted and lead a better life. The Tufts group holds various fundraising events such as selling bubble tea and dumplings for China Care.

Why should people come to Lux this year? To support China Care and see their friends and peers in what will definitely be an entertaining show.

Fun fact: I might be the only heel-wearing Sri Lankan and Jewish boy with an NRA membership that you'll ever meet. 
First time modeling? Nope. Since my mother is a designer and she saw that I had an interest in fashion, she got me to start modeling young. But this is the first time I've been able to model for something that is so worth it in the grand scheme.
Why did you join Lux? It is an amazing opportunity for me to use my love of fashion for something bigger than just feeling good about the way I look. Fashion, to me, has always been about opportunities: to feel stronger, to have a little fun, and to express yourself. Lux takes that even further by giving opportunities to children in China. 
What do you know about Tufts China Care Club? They are a truly amazing group that allows children in China to live a different, better life through funding pediatric surgeries. 
Why should people come to Lux this year? Why wouldn't you? Hot models? Amazing clothes? And everything goes to an absolutely spectacular cause? It's going to be unforgettable. And you'll never forgive yourself for missing it. ;)

Fun fact: I've been practicing Tae Kwon Do, a Korean martial art, since I was 16.
First time modeling? Though I've had no official modeling experience, this is my third year in a row participating in the Tufts Chinacare fashion show. 
Why did you join Lux? The prospect of being able to bring in funds for as honorable a cause as Tufts Chinac are's mission to finance Chinese orphans' surgeries is a very appealing one. I was proud to be part of the effort last year that raised over $4000 for an orphan's heart surgery, and wish to contribute once again to this fundraiser. In addition to this motivation, Lux has been a great way to bring the community together for a night of fashion and entertainment, meet awesome people, and forge lasting friendships.
What do you know about Tufts China Care Club? The Tufts China Care Club has been working tirelessly, since its inception, to raise funds for disenfranchised Chinese orphans through a variety of different projects and efforts, especially for those who are sick or in desperate need of surgeries. So far, TCC has been able to sponsor some form of medical treatment for four Chinese orphans. 
Why should people come to Lux this year? When you buy a ticket to the show, you'll be contributing to an incredible cause while simultaneously enjoying an energizing, aesthetic, and sartorial presentation. Let's just say our models are "easy on the eyes."

Why did you join Lux? Because when else can you strut in heels and say it's for a good cause?
What do you know about Tufts China Care Club? I know that the club is a bunch of overachievers who helped not one but TWO babies with the fashion show last year.  Way to go China Care!
Why should people come to Lux this year? Because we have been rehearsing how to pose and walk for months. Hardcore model boot-camp.

Why did you join Lux? I LOVE walking on the ramp. LUX gives me a chance to do what I love for a wonderful cause! 

What do you know about Tufts China Care Club? TCC is a student organization that is dedicated towards helping the orphaned and abandoned children in China. Through year round activities like speaker events, movie showings, dumpling playgroup etc TCC constantly strives to raise funds and spread awareness about the cause it supports. I think TCC  is a wonderful initiative by the students of Tufts to give the children in China a brighter future.  

Why should people come to Lux this year? By coming to LUX, you help improve a child's life. All you need to do is come enjoy the show, have a blast and help us support our cause!

In addition to the fashion show ( as if that wasn't tempting enough!) we have a variety of dance performances by different dance groups and many more fun events!You'll be foolish to miss it!

Why did you join Lux? China Care has such a great mission, and Tufts China Care really works to bring that awareness and drive to Tufts students. Lux is a great way to get involved and to meet other people with that same passion, whom I otherwise might never have gotten to know.

What do you know about Tufts China Care Club? Lots - I wrote a piece on last year´s show and the broader mission of the club for a journalism class. The club addresses several aspects of adoption in mainland China - fundraising for life-saving surgeries for children up for adoption, support and heritage preservation for children who have been adopted and brought to the States (and a support group for their new parents), and, perhaps most importantly, raising awareness about why child abandonment is such a huge issue in the first place. 

Why should people come to Lux this year? It´s a good time, and a great cause, with fantastic people - why wouldn´t you come?!

Other things you would like to add: Make sure to audition next year and make it rain money on the babies!

A Word from Lux Choreographer-Amy Wipfler

While you all are enjoying your mojito by the beach during spring break, our models and choreographers are working hard to bring you a one of a kind dance routine at Lux2011.

Our Choreographer and Model Manager, Amy Wipfler has been teaching our models through Youtube videos. Amy posted 24 counts of movements a day and advised models to learn the entire routine by the end of spring break. Lets hear what Amy has to say about her choreography:

"I think it's really important that models get a chance to goof off a bit or play up their roles in these dances, since their friends have come to see them in the spotlight. So, I include sections in the dances where they can be creative with it, while still creating a narrative out of the overall dance. For the swing dance, I think it's more about showing off different dances styles, aside from ones that are popular in the contemporary dance scene (classy, like a fashion show). And I like mixing up eras, so I set the swing dancing (that also has ballet elements) to a Britney Spears song, and for the two other dances mixed songs from the turn of the century with Top 40 in 2010."

 This is my second year signing onto Lux. I joined Lux because I have a continued interest in helping others, and I ultimately find it rewarding to be a contributor in raising money for pediatric surgery in China.

What do you know about Tufts China Care Club?
I not only know that Tufts China Care Club maintains a magnificent mission of "saving the lives of [the] medically fragile orphaned children in China, but I also know that it is "committed to empowering young people to use their abilities and creativity to help improve the lives of children in need." This mission truly speaks volumes to me and everyone else involved. I am so happy to be a part of such a pulchritudinous cause!

Be a Part of Lux

Here is an amazing opportunity to get involved with LUX- TCC Fashion Show 2011, the ONLY annual fashion show at Tufts! As you might have heard, we have been working really hard for this show since last September and pre-production is going on very well.

Since its less than one months away from the show, we would like to invite all of you to participate in the production process. We are looking for people who are responsible and committed.

Volunteers: (must attend 2 DRESS REHEARSALS and the show)
4 Spotlight person
1 Videographer
**10 Model Dressors (6 female dressers and 4 male dressors)** VERY IMPORTANT
-Model Dressers' will each be assigned to 2 models. They will need to familiarize themselves with the clothes their models are wearing, assist them in getting in and out of these clothes during "quick-change" and making sure that our sponsored clothes are ALWAYS clean and tidy.
